As a Moroccan who left home in 1995, I have spent more than 30 years living abroad. With time, you start to realize what you have been missing: the sound of familiar conversations, the warmth of hospitality, the taste of fresh mint tea poured high into a glass until the foam crowns like a smile. Homesickness isn’t just about missing a place, it is about missing the feeling of belonging.
Over the years, I have carried Morocco in my heart: the medinas alive with color, the smell of bread baking in clay ovens, the laughter around the table at family gatherings. And as I grew older, I began to see what I hadn’t noticed when I first left. Morocco is not just where I come from, it is part of who I am. It’s a country that shaped me, gave me so much, and one I remain deeply proud of.
Opening Kasbah Café is my way of giving back. It is a tribute to Morocco, a way to share its generosity of spirit and rich traditions with the world, starting with Toronto, a city that has welcomed me.

The name “Kasbah” is not a coincidence. In Morocco, a kasbah is a fortress, a gathering place, a heart of community life. It is where people feel safe, welcome, and connected. Choosing this name was my way of creating the same sense of belonging here in Toronto.
Kasbah Café is designed not only to serve coffee and sweets, but also to recreate the Moroccan experience of DIYAFA, hospitality. In Morocco, guests are honored. Offering tea, food, and comfort is not just custom, it is a cultural duty. That is the atmosphere we want every customer to feel: when you enter Kasbah Café, you are family.

For us, Kasbah Café is about more than nostalgia. It is about building a space where people can connect. I want Moroccans in Toronto to walk in and feel at home, and for those unfamiliar with Morocco to discover its charm and warmth.
Community is at the heart of this project and this dream of mine. Kasbah Café will host cultural events, storytelling evenings, and perhaps even small exhibitions, spaces where people can share, learn, and celebrate together. It is not just a café. It is a bridge between Morocco and Canada.

When you live away from home for so long, you develop a deeper understanding of what your country means to you. Morocco gave me a foundation in values, in resilience, and in hospitality that have guided me everywhere I have lived. With Kasbah Café, I feel I am paying tribute to that.
